SCBWI Conference 16-18 November 2018

There's definitely lots of networking opportunities, and the chance to meet people who's careers you admire.
​This year our key note speakers are: Catherine Johnson and Benji Davies but there are loads of industry professionals there, including Literary Agents such as Yasmin Standen, Ellie Brough, Jenny Savill, Chloe Seager, Alice Sutherland-Hawes, Molly Ker Hawn, Ben Illis and tonnes more.

Why is the conference so good? Why, if you're a Children's Writer and/or Illustrator at ANY stage of your career do you seriously need to think about coming? 

Well, it's not just about meeting celebrities (check me out with DAVID ALMOND and LIZ PICHON) or dressing up in costumes and eating cake. It is potentially a life changing opportunity if you're serious about your career in Children's literature.

Editors and publishers are attending too including Paul Coomey and Kirsty Stansfield. There are industry experts such as Derek Brazell, Julie Gribble, Roxie Munro, Ben Norland, Caroline Thompson, Steve Bohme, Jake Hope, Cathy Olmedillas and Tiffany Leeson.

If those names alone aren't enough for you then think of all the skills workshops you can do such as: school visits, Nielsen knowledge, illustration promotion,  agent submission, plotting expertise, pitching practice and historical fiction.

​Mostly though, it's about meeting, making or catching up with people who 'get you' because they too are up to their eyes in the crazy, beautiful, wonderful up and down world of creating books for children.
