I am always learning and meeting new authors and I particularly enjoy doing that through the SCWBI events. Yesterday I went to an event in Cambridge, hosted by the fabulous Helen Moss and Benjamin Scott, both great writers who are very experienced at school visits.
There were lots of tips and information sharing (I have just been off to Rymans to get my A3 back up presentation folder for when technology lets you down) but I also met some really interesting people too. Take Kimberley Kleczka, author and songwriter who speaks a multitude of languages, including Swahili and this other amazing African language that involves complicated clicks of the tongue. I was totally star struck! Great day, helping me to prepare for the all the upcoming visits I have planned for the week of World Book Day on 2 March. Just a quick blog post to let you all know that am on the radio tonight talking about At Risk, a crime novel/thriller by Stella Rimington who used to be head of MI5.
I'm told that I'm on around 7.40pm (we recorded it a week ago). If you want to listen online use this link: Radio Verulam then click on the little blue box on the top right hand corner. I'll post another blog when it is available for Listen Again. The illustrations for book 2, EATS are arriving and I love them.
Here is one of hot, freshly baked bread rolls, just to whet your appetite. The illustrations will be dotted as chapter headings throughout the book. I don't want to show too many as it might give the plot away and nobody likes a spoiler. A big thank you to the talented Annie Harris for creating them and just being the most supportive, encouraging and wonderful person ever. |
