Beyond thrilled to open my postbox today and see that the marvellous books that I helped create during the Catching Words Project had arrived. Five different classes, five very different stories, all weirdly wonderful and all a total joy to help bring to life.
The Catching Words Project is available to any KS1 and KS2 class based in or around London and, because it is subsidised by the Man Charitable Trust and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, it's inexpensive for schools to take part.
In summary, the class work with a poet, a story teller and a writer to play with words and ideas. The process is overseen by a Discover Story Builder and celebrated with the presentation of their own class book at the Discover Children's Story Centre in Stratford, East London. You'd not be surprised to know how rewarding and worthwhile the Catching Words Project is for everyone who takes part (just look how excited I am) not least the children themselves. To find out more about the project and how you might get your school involved please visit the Catching Words Project page on the Discover Children's Story Centre Website: Find Out More I'm delighted and honoured to be asked back next year and can't wait to create more magic stories. Love, love, love Catching Words.

Love this Cam. Sam is 6 and it would be awesome for him to read the stories by the kids his age, I'd like to think it would encourage him to learn words, stories and write more. Is there any way to get a copy of his age-group books? And is there an avenue for him to provide (positive, I'm sure) feedback (and gratitude) to the authors? Thanks Cam!

Couldn't agree more. One of the first things I do on Catching Words is show the children the books that have been made before. They LOVE them. I'm not sure how you can get some for Sam, maybe try contacting Discover to see if they sell them? The children aren't individually named but I suppose if you want to say how much you enjoyed a story you could always email the school? I'll mention it to Discover because I think it is a very good point. As for other books for children, written by children, I don't know of any. Sam can borrow mine next time we see each other x
