What is it?
In November 2019 I officially became Patron of Reading to Peakirk-Cum-Glinton C of E Primary School, which is just outside of Peterborough, UK. This page is dedicated to our ongoing relationship - who knows how it might develop?
As soon as I became Patron, I wrote a very excited letter (I'm a BIG fan of hand-written letters) to the school, introducing myself and giving them a few extra copies of my books for their library.
Next, the wonderful board was put up in the school - see left - and we agreed on a day for me to do an author visit in April 2020. When I saw the photo of the board I wrote a second excited letter, telling them all about the books I'd been reading.
I then heard from the school about all their reading related activities including: Oral storytelling to tie in with arts week; Collection of reading minutes to earn the right to wear a costume on World Book Day; Sponsored read; Sprucing up reading books; Staff sharing books; Reading Deep Dive; And the upcoming launch of Community Book Swap.
And then...the pandemic hit. I'm still in touch with PcG and hope that I will be able to visit soon - either virtually or face to face. I hear my books are still popular and my board is still up, so hope springs eternal!
