What is it?
In November 2019 I officially became Patron of Reading to Peakirk-Cum-Glinton C of E Primary School, which is just outside of Peterborough, UK. This page is dedicated to our ongoing relationship - who knows how it might develop?
As soon as I became Patron, I wrote a very excited letter (I'm a BIG fan of hand-written letters) to the school, introducing myself and giving them a few extra copies of my books for their library.
Next, the wonderful board was put up in the school - see left - and we agreed on a day for me to do an author visit in April 2020. When I saw the photo of the board I wrote a second excited letter, telling them all about the books I'd been reading.
I've recently heard from the school about all their reading related activities including: Oral storytelling to tie in with arts week; Collection of reading minutes to earn the right to wear a costume on World Book Day; Sponsored read; Sprucing up reading books; Staff sharing books; Reading Deep Dive; And the upcoming launch of Community Book Swap.
It was fantastic to learn about all the reading related endeavours at PcG. I'm excited to see what might be happening next and will be adding to this page as we go. We're only at the beginning of this adventure. Watch this Space...
And then...the pandemic hit. I'm still in touch with PcG and hope that I will be able to visit soon - either virtually or face to face. I hear my books are still popular and my board is still up, so hope springs eternal!
